Protecting Your Hair From the Sun

Your hair is the most abused part of your body during the summer months and most of us don't even realize it. Your hair can undergo some serious breakage and damage from the sun, chlorine, salt, and heat from your styling products. I'll share some secrets for keeping your locks healthy and protected this summer while you enjoy your time outdoors.

1. Get hairspray with sunscreen.

Control frizz, hold your style in place and get protection from the sun with a hair spray doing double duty. Spritz some all over your hair before you leave the door. If you want the protection but can do without the hold, spritz facial suncreen into the air and walk into it like you would a perfume.

2. Seal your hair cuticles.

Ever feel like your hair loses its color quickly in the summer or just looks dry and bristly? That's because your cuticles are damaged. Cuticles are the scales that point downward on the outside layer of your hair that often stick up due to the elements. During the summer, and even throughout other seasons, rines your hair with cold water to help flatten and seal the hair cuticles. Use a shampoo that helps to balance the pH levels in your hair as well as employing a smoothing serum while combing your hair.
